Collection: Saltillo Tile
Place of Clay offers the Southwest’s most comprehensive selection of authentic Saltillo tile — the iconic handmade terra cotta floor tile that has defined Mexican and Southwestern architecture for over four centuries. Our Saltillo is sourced directly from local artisans in the city of Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico — the birthplace of this tile tradition — where each tile is still formed by hand from natural clay, sun-dried, and kiln-fired to produce flooring of unmatched warmth and character.
Our Saltillo collection includes traditional square formats from 6-inch to 16-inch, classic 4-by-8 brick pavers, hexagonal and octagonal shapes, and specialty profiles like star-and-cross patterns and stair coping. We also offer our exclusive hand stained Saltillo — traditional tiles enhanced with custom color treatments that expand the palette beyond natural terracotta while preserving the clay’s authentic character.
Saltillo tile’s natural thermal mass keeps floors cool in summer and retains warmth in winter, making it the ideal flooring choice for Arizona homes. Every tile we sell is kiln-fired for durability, and we carry a full range of sealers and maintenance products to protect your investment for decades to come.
Please note due to the size and weight of these tiles, all orders will be shipped via freight. We try to offer a selection of freight shipping prices at checkout, however you are more than welcome to contact us directly to see if we can find a better rate for you.
For any questions regarding our different lines of flooring, please feel free to call Place of Clay at (602) 252-1506 or email info@placeofclay.com with any questions.
